Sheikh Gumi's Father Said He Would Rather Die Than Allow A Christian Rule Nigeria

Gumi's statements, which have been widely discussed, centered on his view that Nigeria's national security should not be entrusted to Christians and Southerners, and he even mentioned preventing President Bola Tinubu from serving for eight years.

In response to these comments, Fani-Kayode released an audio message stating that Christians in Nigeria should not bow to such rhetoric and stressed that there are millions of God-fearing Muslims in both the North and South of the country.

Fani-Kayode also highlighted the historical context, mentioning that Gumi's father had once declared that he would rather die than see a Muslim not ruling Nigeria, which subsequently happened. He pointed out that violence and mass murders have occurred across Nigeria, involving various extremist groups, and these incidents cannot be solely attributed to Christians.

In his words:

Was it a Christian who said that he would rather die than allow a Muslim to rule the affairs of Nigeria? Was it not Gumi’s father?

“Sheikh Abubakar Gumi said that he would rather die than allow Christians to rule our country, and amazingly, he died a few months later, and a Christian took power."

"All the butchery and mass murders that have taken place in northern Nigeria and even parts of southern Nigeria – in Zango Kataf in southern Kaduna, in Numa in Adamawa State, in Benue State, in Taraba State, Plateau State all over the north where Christian communities were targeted by various Islamic groups and various terrorist groups and butchered in their homes into pieces and even parts of the South when the Fulani herdsmen were attacking the South, butchering the people as far as the East and Yoruba land, and South-South."

Finally, Fani-Kayode urged security agencies to invite Sheikh Gumi for questioning and possible prosecution due to incitement and an attempt to destabilize the country. He also called on President Bola Tinubu to ensure that divisive statements are not tolerated.
