''We shall respond'' Biden says after US troops killed in Mideast

A drone attack killed three US service members and wounded more than 30 others at an outpost in Jordan, marking the first time US troops have been killed by enemy fire in the Mideast since the start of the Gaza war.

The attack comes after weeks of efforts to keep the Israel-Hamas conflict from spreading further through the region. US President Joe Biden blamed Iran-backed militant groups and vowed to hold them responsible. Iran denied any involvement.

Meanwhile in Gaza, the main UN relief agency in the enclave is urging countries to reconsider cutting off funding over allegations its staff members were involved in the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel.

Fighting is raging around hospitals in the southern city of Khan Younis, as medical supplies dwindle and an aid group claims it is besieged by Israeli forces.
